The Starry Night is an oil on canvas by the Dutch post impressionist painter Vincent van Gogh. Painted in June 1889, it describes the view from the east-facing window of his asylum room. Just before sunrise, with the addition of an ideal village, This oil canvas painting is dominated by a moon- and star-filled night sky. The morning star, to the left of center surrounded by circles of white and yellow light. Beneath this sky sits a village of houses surrounding a church with blue-black mountains in the background. A tree sits at this night scene, it reaches almost to the top edge of the painting like a link between land and sky.
